The Unlimited Lights will be racing this weekend at the "Freddie Club Casino of Renton Cup at the Lake Chelan Hydro Fest". A full field of 8 boats is expected to compete including the 2001 national high points champion Phil Bononcini in the #72 boat: Bud/ Pocket Mechanic, the San Diego winner Randy Haas in his #110 Miss Comp air, and the Champion of Tastin and Racin, the Freddie's Club #15 driven by Jerry Hopp. There will be heat racing on Saturday and Sunday, with the Final heat scheduled for Sunday afternoon. Speedvision will be on site to record the race and will produce a one hour program to be aired at least three times this fall and winter. - Phil Bononcini The latest... Greg ran as an unofficial entry due to the withdrawal of UL 3 Graham Trucking driven by Doug Brow because of a thrown rod. Running 3rd but officially 2nd Wayne Howard in Doug McIntosh's UL 14 Miss Schwing America was slightly back. Vince Xaudaro's Lake Shore Automotive began taking on water while running 2nd and ended up returning to the pits upside down, the unfortunate result of a tow line breaking. Heat 1B will be much later this afternoon. Correction: Greg Hopp qualified Freddie's Club. Wally Johnston may have been a little tired after winning a 5 Liter heat and was early and then slow for the start. Heat 2A is scheduled for 10:45 AM, 2B begins the second half of the program and the Final Heat will be the finale. UL 14 has found metal shavings in the oil and is questionable for tomorrow. Having 5 boats that are able to run has necessitated a change in the format. 4 boats ran in Heat 2A and 4 boats will run in 2B, a draw picked the boat that sat out 2A and the winner of 2A will not run in 2B. Jerry Hopp in Freddie's Club was first closely followed by Budweiser/Pocket Mechanic driven by Phil Bononcini who overcame a slow start to finish an apparant 2nd. Unfortunately Bononcini had hit a bouy during the 4 minute gun and was penalized 1 minute relegating him the 4th.
