Saturday Morning at Valleyfield

Day Two at the Molson Dry Regates De Valleyfield has debuted with pristine blue skies and very little wind. The conditions are outstanding for a terrific weekend of racing.
With the format that Regates De Valleyfield uses, the Unlimited Lights fleet will operate with a variation of our "Kelowna Plan". 11 boats are set to run, including the UL-58 Union Dooz of Pingree Conflitti, which arrived this morning from Michigan. Each team will race twice in the 3 preliminary heats today. In fact, Ping also towed in his newly acquired UL-59 Union Dooz Too, the former UL-13 of Michigan's Mark Burghart. Whether that boat competes this weekend is undetermined as of this writing.
In the UL's first heat today, scheduled for the 1:00 pm hour, Eastern Time, Tracy Morgan of St. Clair Shores MI will become the first woman race driver to score points in Unlimited Lights competition. Tracy tested here last year in the UL-14 hull and she will race as a rookie UL driver today. Last year she co-drove the GNH National Champion hull. She also competes in 1 liter hydroplane. Yesterday afternoon the UL fleet conducted a pair of "testing heats' in which points were not scored. Ms. Morgan finished 5th in her heat.
With the arrival of the UL-58, one of the preliminary heats today will start 8 boats, including 1 trailer. The two preliminary heats for each team today will determine the make-up of tomorrow's "B-Main" and Final Heat. The top 5 teams by points scored today, will advance to tomorrow's Final Heat. Then the top 3 boats in tomorrow's "B main" will also advance to the Final, with the "B Main" winner starting on the front line, and the 2nd & 3rd place boats starting the Final as trailers.
Check back for updates throughout the weekend from Valleyfield, Quebec Canada.
